Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare to install electrical power and/or control equipment.
- OHS procedures for a given work area are identified, obtained and understood.
- Established OHS risk control measures and procedures are followed in preparation for the work.
- Safety hazards which have not previously been identified are noted, and established risk control measures are implemented.
- Nature of the work and location of electrical power and/or control equipment is determined by site inspection and from job instructions, specifications and/or diagrams.
- Materials needed for the installation work are obtained in accordance with established procedures and checked against job requirements.
- Tools, equipment and testing devices needed to install electrical power and/or control equipment are obtained in accordance with established procedures and checked for correct operation and safety.

- OHS risk control measures and procedures for carrying out the work are followed.
- Where applicable on-track safety requirements are complied with to enterprise standards
- Power and/or control equipment is installed to comply with technical standards and job specifications and requirements.
- Wiring is run and cables terminated to comply with technical standards and job specifications and requirements.
- Tests are conducted to ensure installed electrical power and/or equipment comply with specifications and functions as intended.
- Established methods for dealing with unexpected situations are discussed with appropriate person(s) and documented.
- Installation of electrical power and/or control equipment is carried out efficiently without waste of materials or damage to apparatus and the surrounding environment or services and using sustainable energy practices.
- Test electrical power and/or control equipment
- OHS risk control measures and procedures for carrying out the work are followed.
- Correct functioning of equipment is established by reference to manuals, system specifications and commissioning data.
- Faults are identified by reference to appropriate technical information and applying knowledge of power operated signalling equipment and logical fault finding techniques.
- Faulty, worn, damaged or insecure components are replaced, repaired or secured in accordance with manufacturer specifications and enterprise requirements.
- Tests are conducted to ensure electrical power and/or control equipment comply with specifications and functions as intended.
- Established methods for dealing with unexpected situations are discussed with appropriate person(s) and documented.
- Complete installation of electrical power and/or control equipment.
